Our Mission

Every year, automotive manufacturers issue thousands of safety recall notices for issues ranging from minor label misprints to critical fire hazards, brake failures, and airbag malfunctions. By federal law, manufacturers are required to repair safety defects free of charge at authorized dealerships.

However, millions of recalled vehicles remain uninspected on the road simply because government regulatory filings can be difficult for ordinary drivers to navigate. CheckCarFault was created to make official motor safety records clear, fast, and accessible to everyone.

Where Does the Data Come From?

All vehicle safety campaign notices, defect descriptions, safety hazard statements, and manufacturer remedies displayed on CheckCarFault are compiled directly from public government records published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Vehicle Product Information Catalog (vPIC).

CheckCarFault is an independent informational directory. We are not owned by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the United States Government, the Department of Transportation, or any automotive automaker. We do not sell cars, perform repairs, or sell personal data.
